Special Features
The psychiatry residency program at MAHEC was created to address the critical need for psychiatrists in rural Western North Carolina, where all 16 counties are designated mental health professional shortage areas. Our mission is to train psychiatrists who can work with rural, under-served populations and who are experts at providing consultation in primary care settings. In recognition of our success, ACGME approved the expansion of our class size to six residents beginning July 2020.
